AFC Bournemouth were one step away from completing a deal for Villarreal’s Nicolas Jackson in the winter market.
The Cherries had reached an agreement with the La Liga side for the winger’s transfer for around €25m. The transfer didn’t take shape because the English club cancelled the deal after finding out about a hamstring injury during medical tests.
This is relayed by AS on Monday, who then explain that the 21-year-old’s failed move to Bournemouth in January has now benefited the Yellow Submarine.
The Senegal international’s injury setback wasn’t as serious as Bournemouth had feared. Since regaining full fitness in March, he’s starred for his side, scoring seven goals and registering two assists in the last nine league games.
Taking his recent performances into account, the newspaper states the €25m fee Villarreal agreed with Gary O’Neil’s side now ‘seems like a gift’.
The Spanish club want to tie him down to a new deal, ahead of a potential bigger exit in the future.
Earlier this month, reports coming out of Spain stated Bournemouth are still scouting him and were delighted with his recent performances. It’s not clear if Jackson is still open to joining the Premier League side after the rejection in January, but the asking price would almost certainly be more than that €25m.
