In the past few days, stories from the English media included Manchester United in the race for Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos.
The player had already been linked to other Premier League sides in the summer window, and with a great start to the season, that apparently drew the interest from the Red Devils.
It’s now time for the Portuguese press to cover those rumours, and even though they don’t seem to actually know anything about Manchester United’s chase for Ramos, they have a pretty good idea of how hard it will be to sign him from Benfica soon.
Newspaper A Bola points out that even though a €40m move was possible this summer, that price should go up. Firstly, because of the entrance of the Red Devils and Bayern Munich’ in the race, and also due to the striker’s inclusion in the national team squad.
It’s also claimed that Benfica are preparing a new contract for the 21-year-old. They’re set to give him a pay raise and an extension, while keeping his €120m release clause. That information is also shared by outlet Record, who today writes that the player ‘will renew’ with the Eagles.
Ramos has eight goals and five assists in 12 appearances for Benfica this season. The Lisbon side had turned down offers from England for him in the summer, and their decision seems to be paying off.
