On Monday afternoon, Aston Villa announced the signing of Colombian striker Jhon Durán.
In an official statement on their website, the Premier League side said they reached a deal with Chicago Fire for the transfer, which is now only subject to medical, personal terms and working visa.
It turns out the Colombian media now brings a few more details of Aston Villa’s newest signing.
Journalist Pipe Sierra writes on Twitter that the English club are spending US$18m (£14.75m) up front, plus US$10m (8.2m) in bonuses.
According to the report, Durán will travel to England ‘in the coming hours’.
Once there, he should have his medicals and sign a contract with Aston Villa which is set to run until 2028.
It’s only been a year since Durán left Colombian side Envigado and made the move to the United States, where Chicago Fire spent €1.7m to sign him.
Playing for the MLS side, he had eight goals and six assists in 28 appearances. Even though his club hadn’t been doing great in MLS this season, his performances were still enough to draw Aston Villa’s attention.
Sierra claims Durán is set to be released from Colombia’s U-20 squad just so he can travel to Birmingham.
