Three days ago, Calciomercato reported Napoli tabled a €10m bid to sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s Billy Gilmour.
This is backed up by Saturday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport, who add the Serie A side’s offer has been rejected by the Seagulls.
There’s a distance between supply and demand, without mentioning Brighton’s request to let the 23-year-old leave this summer.
Earlier claims said the English club want €12-13m, while Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Thursday that they have raised their demand to €20m.
Corriere claim Napoli are keen to add the Brighton player to their squad, at the ‘express request’ of Antonio Conte. The Italian club are trying to get this deal over the line, in order to please their manager.
The Premier League side signed the midfielder from Chelsea in 2022, five years after he had joined the Blues academy. At that time, Conte was in charge of the London club’s first team, and he now wants to have the Scotland international at Napoli.
Napoli are serious about Gilmour and the ‘pressure on Brighton continues’. Corriere state ‘everyone in East Sussex’ are aware that Conte’s side are preparing an improved offer to sign him.
The player hasn’t featured in the pre-season so far and it remains to be seen if Fabian Hürzeler will hand him minutes in a friendly against Villarreal at The Amex later today.
