Even though nearly two weeks have passed since transfer deadline day, the Italian media haven’t forgotten Wolverhampton Wanderers’ rather cheeky attempt to sign Boulaye Dia on loan.
Wolves, in need of a striker, came late on in the window and offered a paid loan with an €18m option to buy for the Salernitana star, who wanted the move but found himself blocked by his club.
This led to him rebelling, being dropped from the squad, likely fined, all before an international break where he hasn’t been able to play because of an injury, as reported by Il Mattino.
It’s revealed that both Dia and Lassana Coulibaly, seen as ‘irreplaceable players’ for Salernitana, were ‘injured during training camps’ with their national teams, and are now expected to return to his club for ‘urgent checks’.
The fear for the striker is that he has an issue in his right thigh, and he could be unavailable for a further two weeks.
Salernitana want to double check all of this, and the player is awaited not just by the doctors, but also the president Danilo Iervolino, who wants to ‘shed light’ on what happened before the Lecce game and after Wolves’ offer.
He does want to ‘reassure him’, and ensure everything is water under the bridge despite him being fined, but also check as to whether the player is still up for the challenge, because them staying up in Serie A ‘depends on his goals’.
