There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Goztepe are looking to re-sign Southampton goalkeeper Mateusz Lis.
The 27-year-old was loaned out to Goztepe last season, helping the Izmir club secure promotion to the Super Lig.
Yenicag Gazetesi today report Goztepe president Rasmus Ankersen is looking to bring the Pole back to the club after he impressed last season.
Ankersen has reportedly come under pressure from fans to make this deal happen and the Goztepe chief will now ‘roll up his sleeves’ to re-sign the player.
Southampton and the Turkish side are both owned by the Sports Republic group which led to the player being loaned there in the first place.
There have been recent reports Lis was keen to return to Goztepe this summer and the lure of Super Lig football next season will be appealing to him. However, it was also reported Southampton had received offers for him which has so far prevented him going back on loan.
He made 31 appearances for Goztepe last season, and would be welcomed back with open arms. Lis joined Southampton on a five-year deal in 2022, moving on a free transfer.
