At the weekend, we covered a claim from Italy that stated Brighton & Hove Albion have approached Hellas Verona for Ivan Ilić.

The midfielder has been a regular whenever available for selection this season, making 11 appearances in all competitions. He has missed more than a month between September and November due to an injury.

Ilić’s setback has not put off his suitors that includes Brighton and Torino. The latter want to sign the 21-year-old in the winter market in order to please their manager, Ivan Jurić.

That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who also state the Seagulls have made a €15m bid to sign the player in January.

Torino chairman Urbano Cairo wants to take the Serbia international for around €16-18m, but it won’t be easy for them because their Serie A counterpart paid €10.8m to Manchester City in securing his services in 2020.

It’s said Hellas will have to pay €4.8m to City, regardless of the fee they will earn from his future sale. Should they accept Brighton’s proposal, the Italian club wouldn’t manage to earn the full fee they invested in signing the midfielder.

For this reason, Hellas president Maurizio Setti ‘rejected’ Brighton’s €15m bid for Ilić, and TMW don’t mention whether Roberto De Zerbi’s side intend to return with an improved offer for the Serbian.
