If anyone is pushing Paul Pogba for the title of most tedious transfer story this year, it’s Christian Eriksen.

The Tottenham midfielder has been linked with an exit for months on end at this point, without any transfer happening.

However, with his contract expiring next summer and clubs free to negotiate with him in January, the rumours are not going to go away anytime soon.

Real Madrid have been one of the club’s consistently linked with the Danish star, and according to El Desmarque, that interest is not going away.

The website have been providing updates on Eriksen’s potential departure for several months, and they have another one this week.

According to them, Florentino Pérez, who they believe is a massive admirer of Eriksen, has not stopped insisting they sign him and has now convinced Zinedine Zidane too.

Zidane wasn’t all that keen because he wants Paul Pogba, but that transfer is ‘impossible’ because of Manchester United’s demands and so he now views Eriksen as ‘acceptable’.

Thus, Pérez is already working on a deal and hopes to get one done in January for €30m. However, he faces competition from rivals Atlético Madrid, who are now also showing interest.

Diego Simeone wanted Eriksen in the summer, and Daniel Levy and Tottenham’s ‘leaders’ prefer selling to them.

Eriksen likes the idea of the move and considered it several times in the summer, as Atlético are willing to pay him more.

However, he’s long dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, and if there’s any chance to go there, they get preference. He’s already given the okay to Pérez, who now has to convince Tottenham over the transfer fee.

Quite why Tottenham would need convincing is anyone’s guess, though. €30m for a player who won’t sign a new deal isn’t playing that well and can go on a free in the summer is good business that Daniel Levy is sure to bite their hand off.

It’s because of that that this latest Eriksen rumour seems a little farfetched. Why would Madrid pay for a player they can get free in the summer? It would make little sense.

Although, little does about the La Liga giants these days does so maybe there’s some truth to it.
