Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has insisted that Southampton striker Paul Onuachu wants to remain at the club next season, and they are working to make it happen.
Asist Analiz cover comments from the president today in which he insists that they want a deal but not at Southampton’s asking price.
Onuachu has spent this season on loan with the Turkish side after being shipped out by Southampton in the summer following a disastrous few months at the club.
He’s revived himself in Turkey despite not being a regular for the club, bagging 15 goals and four assists in 21 games in the league but only playing in 50% of the available minutes.
Trabzonspor don’t have an option to buy him permanently but have made it clear for months that they’d like to do so and have been talking to Southampton about the matter.
The two sides are yet to reach an agreement, with Trabzonspor seemingly keen to avoid paying a fee to Southampton, who are likely looking to recover as much of the €18m they paid for the striker in January 2023.
Doğan has confirmed as much, but says the player wants to return to Turkey, hinting that could play a part in proceedings.
“Onuachu told our coach that he wants to work with him. She wants to stay in Trabzon. Her club wants £15m, We are negotiating on re-lease (loan).”
