If the Catalan media are to be believed, recent months have seen a real battle for the signing of Barcelona youngster Ilaix Moriba.

The footballer turned 16 years of age last weekend, and initially it was Manchester City thought to be causing the biggest headache for the Blaugrana.

With Barcelona wanting to get their La Masia product to sign a first professional contract, Pep Guardiola’s side were lurking, ready to snatch away another gem from the Catalan club’s youth system.

There was confidence City would be the choice, and then it twisted back to Barca, only for the claims then to say Chelsea had come in late and were well placed for the potential signing.

Sport now report that despite ‘very powerful proposals’ from both Manchester City and Chelsea, Moriba has instead decided to renew his contract with Barcelona.

He’ll sign a three contract, which is likely going to be a much better deal thanks to reported interest from the Premier League.
