Ange Postecoglou’s decision to try Micky van de Ven at left-back may have provided the defender with a huge benefit for the summer, as he’ll now be considered by the Netherlands in that role.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who say Ronald Koeman has been given a new option in the position thanks to Postecoglou’s tactical switch at Tottenham.
The newspaper reports that Van de Ven may find himself playing in a new role for his country this summer at Euro 2024 thanks to his move there at Spurs.
He’s enjoyed his first season at Tottenham since arriving in the summer, recently voted Player of the Year and perfectly fitting in to the system that Postecoglou plays thanks to his speed and defensive abilities.
His versatility has also proven to be useful, with the Dutchman filling it at left back towards the end of this season, when Destiny Udogie was ruled out through injury.
He impressed there too and that’s opened the door for the Netherlands, who have so far only handed him 26 minutes of playing time, largely because of their strength in depth at centre-back.
They’re less well stocked at left-back, though, and Van de Ven’s performances there for Tottenham will help Koeman put him in his team, particularly if they continue to play with a back four system.
