Signing Moussa Sissoko from Tottenham in the summer, Watford were hoping the midfielder’s experience in the Premier League would be key in them fighting against relegation.

However, despite making 32 appearances in the league, scoring two goals and assisting another, the 32-year-old has been unable to help steer them away from the danger zone.

While not back in the Championship just yet, Watford are as close as they can be without it being official, and nothing short of the biggest comeback story of all time will save them at this point.

Whether Sissoko will stick around for second-tier football next season remains to be seen, but there is certainly an idea creeping at the back of his mind, and that’s a return to Toulouse in the future if possible.

Speaking on Instagram in an Instagram Live with Etienne Didot, relayed by local newspaper La Dépêche, the Watford midfielder explained what he had in mind going forward.

He said: “Seriously, it’s possible. Then again in football, everything goes quickly. Today, do I want to leave the English league? No. It’s complicated to answer the question, but I wouldn’t be against it.

“I came through at Toulouse, it’s a special club for us, and if the opportunity to return comes, it would be with pleasure.”
