A move to AC Milan is possible for Everton midfielder James Rodriguez this summer, but only if Rafa Leao agrees to go the other way.
That’s according to journalist Sandro Sabatini, who says it is all dependent on the Portuguese striker and agent Jorge Mendes making a deal work.
Rodriguez has been heavily linked with a move away from Everton this summer, with it believed new manager Rafa Benitez is keen to ship him out.
At the minute, his most likely destination appears to be AC Milan, with them on the hunt for a new number ten and Mendes believed to be in negotiations with them.
And Sabatini says that is very much on the table, although it depends on Leao agreeing to go the other way first.
“He said he would like to play in Italy, but it all depends on Leao,” he told Calciomercato.
“If he accepts the transfer, Milan can make this investment. It is possible, given that the whole situation is managed by Mendes.”
This is not the first time we’ve heard such a suggestion, with it claimed at the end of last month that Mendes was sounding out the Premier League for Leao and had got positive noises back from Everton.
That was followed by a claim that Mendes has proposed a swap deal to Milan already, but at the moment, neither Milan nor Leao were particularly keen on it.
There’s plenty of time for that to change, though, particularly with Mendes on the case, so expect to hear more of this in the coming weeks.
