ESPN Brasil today features an interview with Vinícius Souza, who’s one of the many players who expect to draw Manchester City’s interest in a near future.

The midfielder was purchased by the City Group in 2020. At that time, he was bought for €2.5m from Flamengo and signed a five-year deal with Belgian side Lommel.

Now on loan at KV Mechelen, who unlike Lommel are playing the first division, the 22-year-old claims to be fighting for ‘big things’ and impress his parent club.

Quizzed if he expects to move to Manchester City, Vinícius said: “For all players there is this possibility, but we need to do our job at the club and leave it to the father in heaven”.

In the past few years, it became very common for the City group to buy youngsters in South America and send them to clubs such as Lommel, Girona and Troyes.

Those players are normally attracted by the chance of joining Manchester City in the future, but that’s been a distant dream for them so far.

Since this is a project which is still in its early stages, with those talents still developing at the partner clubs, perhaps the scenario will change in the coming seasons, with a move to the Etihad, to hopefully be managed by Pep Guardiola, the dream.
