On summer deadline day, Manchester City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.
Prior to signing the goalkeeper, the Citizens had looked at PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery in the summer window.
That’s at least what Jeunes Footeux are reporting, and they say the 19-year-old has been a ‘dream target’ for Pep Guardiola.
Manchester City tried to please their manager, but PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is said to have reacted immediately by setting a price of at least €100m for the midfielder.
The Premier League club could get another shot at signing the France international if developments are taken into account.
PSG manager Luis Enrique left Donnarumma out of his plans this season and that forced him to leave for Manchester City. The situation could repeat with Zaïre-Emery.
That’s according to former France international turned pundit Jérôme Rothen, and he discussed the youngster’s situation at PSG for RMC Sport, relayed by Jeunes Footeux.
“The situation is terrible for Warren Zaïre-Emery. Since Luis Enrique’s arrival, he has regressed. But every time he plays, he has average performances. He may not be compatible with Luis Enrique’s style of play. For his own good, it would perhaps be better for him to look elsewhere and have another experience with another coach,” he said.
Jeunes Footeux then report it’s too early to come to the conclusion he’ll move to City or another club. However, Zaïre-Emery’s situation doesn’t improve he’ll likely consider offers.
These would be positive signs for Manchester City.
