Sporting have still not given up on signing Lazar Markovic from Liverpool, according to reports from Portugal. Zero Zero says the Portuguese side are still trying to convince the Reds to accept the transfer.

Sporting are reportedly asking for a one-year loan, since Liverpool demand at least €20m for a permanent transfer.

The website claims that since Markovic’s recent physical form isn’t very good, meaning there’s worry about injuries, so Sporting are afraid of risking too much money on a permanent deal right now.

The Serbian player had his best years playing under Jorge Jesus at Benfica, and all parties think he could shine again under the same manager.

Liverpool are the ones to have the last word, but Sporting would see it as a huge coup to sign Markovic. With Islam Slimani and Adrien Silva possibly going to Leicester City, signing a former Benfica favourite would go down very well indeed with fans.
