Watford’s 2-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday has of course made it to the Portuguese media, where they love to celebrate the success of their many managers.
Marco Silva has been in the spotlight for a while, quickly installed as the favourite to take over at Everton. Others have come and gone, with a whole series of stories from Sky, but some believe that was more about balancing the betting liabilities than genuine Everton approaches.
O Jogo don’t give much of an update on the Watford manager moving to Goodison Park, but it’s made clear Everton’s efforts aren’t over. Once again, as has been repeated many times in the Portuguese media, it’s stated Silva is waiting to see what happens.
Unwilling to force Watford’s hand, there seems to be some Portuguese pride being taken in how Silva is handling the current Everton circus. He wants to remain professional, and it’s probably past experience which has led to that.
Treated poorly by Sporting when he was edged out there, Marco Silva probably doesn’t want to appear too much of a hypocrite by forcing a move to Everton.
