The Football Association have reportedly accepted Wolverhampton’s request to register Anderson Talisca in the Championship. According to Wednesday’s edition of O Jogo, the Brazilian midfielder is now only waiting for his work visa to be granted so he can finally fly to England.
The 22-year-old had his permit registered as a “young talent”, which fits the rules because of the price paid for him, which will be €25m.
The newspaper says that despite a four or five-year contract, Talisca has been told he’s spending only one season at the club, as the spell will work for him as a bridge for a bigger side.
After so much misleading information in the past few weeks, it’s still hard to believe this transfer is finally done.
There’s also the issue of some of the claims being plainly factually wrong. The FA do not issue work permits, they merely have a guideline system. Talisca would initially fail the process, but, whichever club in whichever English league he joined, he would likely pick up enough points on appeal.
That would be due to his fee, the wages he’ll be getting, and the standard of club he’d be joining Wolves from. The argument for exceptional young talent was on the old system, before last year’s changes.
That the Portuguese reporting about all that has been wrong would of course shed doubt on the whole thing. However, there’s insistence every day this is nearly done, and with Jorge Mendes involved it may well get over the line.
