Coventry City sold Viktor Gyökeres to Sporting CP last summer after the striker chose the Liga Portugal side over various other options.
He could have swapped the Championship club for the Premier League, but felt Sporting was the best option to develop his game. That decision looks to have been a very wise one from Gyökeres given that he won the title and scored 43 goals.
Such form has inevitably attracted interest from elsewhere. Sporting have been telling their local media, both in public and via briefings, that the 26-year-old can only leave for his €100m clause this summer.
That may be a negotiating position, but either way his former club Coventry City would be set for a big windfall having agreed a percentage of the sell-on fee.
That percentage has just been reduced according to various reports in Portugal today, and an official Sporting release to the financial markets. Record state the amount Coventry City will get from a sale profit has reduced from 15% to 10%.
Sporting had the ability to do that due a clause in the original contract. Coventry City will now get an additional €3m for that change, set to be paid in two instalments, but obviously less of any future fee.
