It’s now time for the Portuguese press to claim that Arsenal are about to sign Cedric Soares from Southampton on a permanent deal.

Outlet Notícias ao Minuto says the Gunners are currently discussing contract details with the player’s staff, but both parties believe they’ll reach an agreement soon. It’s claimed the deal is ‘practically done’.

This new contract will start running after the end of the season, since the loan from Southampton has been extended until the final fixture of the Premier League.

Notícias ao Minuto claims they’ve managed to ‘confirm’ the original report from ESPN, which said the fullback is signing a three-year deal.

Loaned by Southampton in the January transfer window, the Portuguese international didn’t have any chances to make his debut for the Gunners, both because of injuries and due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Arsenal have used Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Calum Chambers and Hector Bellerin in the right-back position this season, and should now keep Soares as an extra option for Mikel Arteta.
