Portsmouth are closing in on a deal for Esbjerg’s Elias Sørensen, with the player waiting for final paperwork to be completed before returning to England.
He’s previously been in English football when at Newcastle United but failed to breakthrough. From the Magpies he had loans to Blackpool, Carlisle United and Almere City, before leaving Newcastle permanently in 2021.
The Portsmouth claims are according to Tipsbladet, who report the club have agreed a deal with Esbjerg for the winger.
According to their information, Portsmouth have offered between €300,000 and €400,000, around 2.2-3m kroner, for Sørensen and a deal has now been agreed.
Sørensen is now waiting to get his work permit for a move to England but is no longer ‘training at full strength’ with Esbjerg, a hint that a move is on the way.
He currently has one ear on his deal with the Danish side but has been open publically about his desire to move, with Esbjerg sports director Jens Hammer Sørensen also admitting there was interest in the Championship and Germany.
Portsmouth have stepped forward and agreed a deal for the 24-year-old to return to England where he was previously with Newcastle’s U23 side.
He moved to Denmark in July 2021 and has managed 43 goals and 21 assists in 84 games for the club since, numbers which have presumably convinced Portsmouth, back in the Championship this season, to spend their money on him.
