West Ham may have been handed their chance to hire Julen Lopetegui this summer as AC Milan fans continue to revolt against the possible appointment.
Libero cover the Spanish coach today and how AC Milan fans are holding a ‘popular uprising’ in the hope of convincing the Serie A side against the potential appointment.
Lopetegui has been named among the frontrunners for the Milan job as they look to move on from Stefano Pioli this summer.
This, though, has not been met with any sort of enthusiasm by the club’s fanbase, who would much prefer someone like Antonio Conte to be hired.
Indeed, they have made their feelings clear, with an online petition gathering close to 10,000 signatures according to Calciomercato and the #nopetegui hashtag going viral as well.
The club have so far ignored that and continue to look at Lopetegui, although there may be a point at which they change track and look to other candidates just to ensure their fans remain on side.
That would come as good news for West Ham, who have also been heavily linked with a move for Lopetegui as they look to replace David Moyes.
Several reports have made it clear that Lopetegui would prefer a move to Milan but if they decide to start listening to their fans and pull away, that could open the door for West Ham.
It’s all a bit of a mess, with plenty of drama already out on the stage and more to come in what is fast becoming a soap opera ahead of the summer.
