Paris Saint-Germain have prepared for their second leg against Aston Villa in the Champions League quarterfinals this week with a pool party and plenty of Gloria Gaynor.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who details PSG’s chilled out week in the run up to the big quarter-final second leg clash against Aston Villa.
The newspaper explains with a 3-1 advantage in the tie from the first leg and the postponement of their Ligue clash against Nantes, PSG have approached the big Champions League clash with a ‘relaxed but focused atmosphere’ in the camp.
That postponement gave them a six-day window between the two legs against Aston Villa, which is a rarity at this point in their calendar.
They’ve planned a two-pronged approach to their preparations, handing the group a 48-hour rest after a warm-up session on Thursday morning in Possy.
This was not a reward but a decision from Luis Enrique and his backroom staff, who believed it would aid the recovery of the squad.
They took full advantage, enjoying a pool party organised by one of the executives in the company of their families that was all about rest, relaxation and team bonding. It was presumably here at the end of the event, that Gaynor made her arrival via I Will Survive.
This was France’s song during the 1998 World Cup, which they eventually won, and has now been adopted by this PSG squad.
There was even a friendly ping-pong competition and sing-along while others took their minds off things with relatives in France or nearby before returning.
All in all, it’s been a good week for them, with the atmosphere focused, the mood good and everyone seeming ready to finish the job against Aston Villa too.
