As the Italian media continues to cover Atalanta’s interest in Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James, we today get to read that it’s ‘now or never’ for the Serie A side’s pursuit.
That’s said by outlet Calcio Atalanta, who brings some doubts about the signing being made in the winter window.
There are a couple of reasons for it. The first is that Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini ‘does not believe’ in the January market, as he prefers to build his teams in the summer.
The second is that the club don’t like getting involved in a tug of war that late in the transfer window, and that sounds like talks with Birmingham City are not that advanced.
It’s pointed out that James would arrive at Atalanta as ‘supernumerary’ in the squad, forcing the club to work on outgoing transfers in the coming weeks.
That’s the kind of problem that the Serie A side don’t seem willing to handle, with Calcio Atalanta asking ‘what would be the point’ for them to invest in a young talent that would require that much work and cause that much chaos in the club’s plans.
So even though it had been said that James is pushing for the move out of Birmingham, it seems the Italian club will need to be convinced first.
