Following his arrival in South America for the upcoming international matches, Liverpool star Luis Diaz had a word with the Colombian media.
The Cafeteros have a big game against Uruguay this week, and quoted by AS, the winger spoke about his big expectations for the encounter.
Diaz will be facing his Liverpool teammate Darwin Nunez, and told the Colombian press that the pair have been sharing jokes and even laughed about having a wager on the game.
“I was talking to Darwin on the flight to Barranquilla, I was telling him that it was going to be a tough game. He was also letting me know, but it was more of a chat and that everything is going to be fine, may the best team win and things like that,” said Diaz.
“I always wish him the best, he’s a good friend and teammate. We have to get the result, which is what I want most. We were on the point of betting (laughs).”
There’s also a little controversy in South America because of the time of this game, as it will be played in Barranquilla at 3:30pm. That could easily see temperatures pass 30ºC, and there are those who believe that’s too hot, especially for those who play in Uruguay or in Europe.
Diaz doesn’t seem very concerned about that.
“The schedule is fine, we’ve already played at that time, it’s going to be a bit difficult for them. But beyond that we have to look at what we’re going to do on the pitch, we have to try to counteract what they’re going to do. We know we’re at home and there are going to be factors against them. But it’s going to be a tough game, they also have a good team. We have to go for the three points, which is what we’re looking for.”
Colombia and Uruguay will be facing each other on Thursday. They respectively stand 3rd and 4th in the South American qualifiers for the World Cup, so that should certainly be an entertaining game to watch, especially for Liverpool fans who’ll want to see whether it’s Diaz or Nunez who does best.
