Rafael Benítez was at Newcastle United for over three years before leaving them at the end of last season. Steve Bruce was appointed as his successor and has done reasonably well.

The reported takeover of the Tyneside club by a Saudi consortium is expected to take shape soon and the Magpies are planning to bring in a new manager for the next campaign.

Benítez and Mauricio Pochettino are the ‘most advanced’ targets, according to Le10 Sport.

The former Liverpool boss is currently in charge of Chinese side Dalian Professional, while the Argentine is without a club since Tottenham Hotspur sacked him last November.

It’s claimed the ex-Southampton boss’ chances of becoming the next Newcastle manager are ‘gaining momentum’ as he remains a priority target for the club’s incoming investors.

Le10 Sport have contacted several sources and they have been told Pochettino ‘would be very close’ to becoming Bruce’s successor.

The negotiations between Newcastle and the former Spurs coach are at an advanced stage and unless there are any last-minute surprises, the South American is expected be Le10 to take over the managerial job at St James’ Park.

Pochettino to Newcastle has been discussed in Spain over the past few days and now Le10 Sport have become the latest outlet to report about the possibility of him returning to the Premier League.
