Wilmar Barrios to Tottenham rumours were started by The Sun at the weekend, with claims Mauricio Pochettino would be considering a £25m offer for the player.
‘Tottenham want Wilmar Barrios from Boca Juniors as Mauricio Pochettino prepares to make £25million summer bid’ explained The Sun.
The 24 year old Colombian players for Boca Juniors as a defensive midfielder, and the rumours were always likely to make their way to South America.
Colombia’s El Heraldo cover it, but don’t add a thing, ADN, also from the footballer’s country, cover it and say Barrios has had a ‘brilliant’ season, but again don’t add anything.
Over in Argentina, major daily newspaper Clarin has a feature on Boca Juniors players, talking up their values and how the club has made good investments and then developed those talents well.
Whilst Tottenham don’t get a mention, Barrios does. There’s a very interesting claim for any Spurs interest, especially if it’s true Pochettino is preparing a £25m offer.
Clarin believe it would be too much, way too much. Barrios has a release clause of around $15m, according to the newspaper, and that’d be just over £11m.
It’s not like Tottenham and Daniel Levy to pay more than twice what is needed for a player, so this is a curious one.
