On Tuesday we covered claims from French newspaper L’Equipe which stated that Mauricio Pochettino and Paul Mitchell had tried to convince Clinton Njie to leave the club, but had failed.
Pochettino and Mitchell had explained to Njie that his chances would be restricted next season, and therefore he’d be better off joining a different club… a club like Marseille.
L’Equipe stated that Marseille hadn’t given up on Njie, and therefore things weren’t over.
Well, it didn’t take long for things to turn around. On Wednesday evening, L’Equipe report a move is now agreed, with Get French Football News saying Njie has also agreed.
He’ll go to Marseille initially on loan, and that will be made permanent if he plays a certain amount of matches. The fee would then be €7m.
What a difference a day makes. Pochettino must have been especially convincing when he tried again.
