Liverpool defender Billy Koumetio is ‘as good as certain’ to return to the club this month from a loan spell at Austria Vienna.
That’s according to Kicker, who follow up reports from yesterday that his temporary move to Austria was set to be cancelled.
We covered comments from Vienna’s sporting director Manuel Ortlechner yesterday regarding Koumetio, with him explaining that he was set to talk to Liverpool on the phone about his loan deal.
According to him the Reds’ plan was to bring the 20-year-old back from his loan spell early and Kicker confirm that appears to be on the cards.
They say that a return to Liverpool is ‘as good as certain’ at this point after the defender was ‘not convincing’ in the first half of the season.
Koumetio has only managed five appearances in the Bundesliga all season and made the matchday squad just seven times. Of those, only three have been in the starting 11.
He’s not been in the squad for Vienna’s last three games after sitting on the bench against LASK and didn’t make the squad in the previous five games before that either.
Indeed, his last league appearance was a 45-minute display against SC Austria Lustenau on the 3rd of September and it seems Liverpool now want to cut their losses and bring him back.
