Nottingham Forest continue to pursue Feyenoord’s Givairo Read, after making multiple attempts to sign him this summer.
The Premier League side have already seen two offers rejected and made an improved bid of around €22-23m at the weekend.
On Monday, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press that Feyenoord turned down the latest bid. The Eredivisie side want Nottingham Forest to make another effort.
The right-back has a verbal agreement with them for a five-year contract worth €20m plus bonuses. He is waiting for the two clubs to come to an agreement.
Confidence of Nottingham Forest move
Feyenoord Transfermarkt took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that the 20-year-old’s move to the City Ground is ‘simply going to happen’.
A former Feyenoord director inserted a clause to allow the fullback to leave for around €25m.
De Telegraaf also claims Feyenoord rejected the English club’s third proposal of €22m.
Oliver Glasner’s side are willing to offer a package of around €25m, the figure that the Dutch club allegedly agreed with Givairo Read.
Nottingham Forest want to snatch signing
Dennis te Kloese was Feyenoord’s general manager and technical director between July 2022 and June 2026. He left the Dutch club for Monterrey and now denies having included a €25m clause. The newspaper relays his comments.
“During my time at Feyenoord, I did not make a price agreement with anyone. Besides, there are no fixed buyout clauses in contracts at all at Feyenoord,” he said.
“Last year, before the winter break, I was actively working on a transfer of Read to Bayern Munich. Then even more clubs came into the picture. They were all roughly around that price level of €25m, and even slightly higher.”
The negotiations in January collapsed because the Netherlands U21 international picked up an injury. Te Kloese also talked about Nottingham Forest’s attempt to sign Givairo Read.
“I think a year ago it was quite realistic that he would have gone to a big club like Bayern Munich or a top club in England,” Te Kloese explained.
“But those clubs just adopted a bit of a wait-and-see attitude because he got injured and wanted to see if he would get fit again, return to top level, and be able to play many matches in a row.
“Otherwise, I think we would have reached an agreement with Bayern, because it was very concrete. I think Nottingham Forest now want to beat the market and snatch Read away from under the nose of a big club.”
