The Spanish media now considers Pau Torres’ move from Villarreal to Aston Villa just a matter of time.
Newspaper El Periodico Meditarreneo writes on Sunday that the defender’s move to the Premier League side will take place ‘in the next few days’.
Villarreal are expected to make €95m with sales this summer, and €40m of that is coming from Torres’ move to Aston Villa.
The move is now said to be ‘imminent’ and will be made official very soon.
It had been the very same El Periodico Meditarraneo who first reported the agreement between Villarreal and Aston Villa on Friday.
Torres was protected by a €60m release clause, but since his contract with Villarreal would expire in one year, there was a little bit of pressure on the Spanish club for them to give a discount.
The defender himself didn’t sound that sure about the move at first, but Aston Villa always sounded serious about it, and that may have rushed his decision. Now it shouldn’t take long until he’s with Unai Emery’s squad.
