On Monday, De Telegraaf reported VfL Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven has reached a verbal agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over a five-year deal. It was also stated the two clubs have to agree a deal for the transfer to take shape.
Today’s report from the same newspaper gives a background on how the 22-year-old was convinced of wanting a move to the north London club.
According to De Telegraaf, the defender, his father Marcel and agent José Fortes Rodriguez made a ‘lightning visit’ to England to hold talks with Tottenham.
It’s said the centre-back had an ‘excellent feeling’ after holding talks with Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou and ‘reached an agreement’ with the Premier League side. The trip to the UK for the player and his camp was ‘extremely effective’.
De Telegraaf state this is how Tottenham were ‘too fast’ for the competition.
Van de Ven, as per the report, must now hope that Tottenham and Wolfsburg can ‘reach an agreement’ so that his move to England can go through in the summer window.
The Dutchman has already expressed his desire to play in the Premier League.
“I have always dreamed of the Premier League, because the biggest clubs play there and I also see that competition as the best in the world. I didn’t really have a preference for a club,” Van de Ven told De Telegraaf when he was with Jong Oranje last month.
