In mid May, Spanish journalist Angel Garcia Alvarez claimed Rafa Mujica had ‘signed an agreement’ with Leeds United ahead of a summer transfer to Elland Road.
The 20 year old was seeing his contract end at Barcelona B and wouldn’t have been as prominent next season.
Garcia Alvarez claimed the youngster had been on the Championship club’s radar for ‘some time’, and he made it clear he thought they’d secured the striker’s services.
Very highly rated Abel Ruiz was set to be preferred for Barca B next season, and the club also want to give game time to Alejandro Marqués. These options are younger than Mujica so it was time to move on.
Barcelona today officially announced Mujica has left, and wished him well in the future.
Subsequently, Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo report the player’s future ‘points to Leeds’, who are the only possibility picked out, no other club is named as interested.
The claims aren’t quite as confident as those which came from Garcia Alvarez, but it’s clearly still thought the possibility is there.
