Diogo Dalot made his debut for the Portuguese national team this week in big style, as even though he had never played at full international level before, he was brought on in a Euro match against France which that helped them qualify for the next stage.

His performance led to an interview for his father, who spoke to Antena 1 about it, where it turns out that he also talked about the player’s future.

Loaned by Manchester United, Dalot spent the season at Milan, and despite the many rumours about a move to Italy, there’s still no information about where he’ll be playing next.

Now according to Jacinto Teixeira, the right-back is preparing himself to be back at Old Trafford this summer.

“Diogo spent a year on loan at Milan and will now return to Manchester United,” Teixeira told Antena 1 (via O Jogo).

“It was an absolutely extraordinary year for him, with a great evolution, where, above all, he managed to recover his physical form after two very serious injuries in the last two years.”

Regarding Dalot’s performance against France, his father couldn’t hide his happiness about it.

“Against France he responded to what was asked of him. As for starting the next game… That will depend on the coach’s choice, but he’s prepared. I felt he was happy, calm. I felt enormous pride when I realised he was taking the vest to replace Semedo.”

“Without a doubt that this showcase of the European championship, with millions and millions of spectators around the world, will give him more visibility and also more responsibility. I think he’s perfectly aware of that.”

Diogo Dalot has a contract with Manchester United running until 2023.

With the Red Devils apparently working to get a good fee with his sale, his appearances for Portugal could certainly help them out and push that price tag up.
