On December 21st, AS reported Manchester United have become a problem for Real Madrid in the chase for David Alaba.

The 28-year-old is expected to leave Bayern Munich after his contract with the treble winners expires at the end of this season. Last November, the Bundesliga giants withdrew their last renewal offer.

This week’s edition of SportBild explains the Austria international is still unwilling to forego money and hence, all parties accept his exit from the Bavarian club as a free agent.

Alaba is managed by Pini Zahavi, and the agent is in the middle of the transfer saga. It’s claimed six top clubs were presented to the player’s representative and his father George, and the list includes the Red Devils.

That’s the only information the German sports magazine has about the Old Trafford club.

SportBild also state the player’s preference is to join the La Liga winners and Zinedine Zidane’s side are currently the ‘hottest’ in his transfer chase.

Real Madrid view him as a replacement for Sergio Ramos, who also has less than six months left on his contract.

Alaba will receive a hefty signing on bonus if and when he decides to join a new club on a free transfer. It’ll be interesting to see where he will end up, if Real Madrid decide not to make an approach for him.
