Atlético Madrid forward João Félix was advised to join Arsenal, not Chelsea in the January transfer window, but ignored his advisors to make the move to Stamford Bridge instead.
That’s according to AS, who say the forward is currently ‘suffering the nightmare’ at this moment in time as he isn’t wanted at the Wanda Metropolitano and cannot find a new club either.
The newspaper explains that Félix was confident he would have a deal done to leave by July 10th and wouldn’t have to return to work under Diego Simeone, but he has found himself stuck in limbo, waiting for opportunities as other big transfers don’t happen.
He does not have a long line of suitors waiting for him, though, after something of a miserable loan spell at Chelsea during the second half of last season.
He joined the Blues on loan in an €11m deal having also received offers from Arsenal and Manchester United that month, according to AS.
Indeed, they state he was told to join the Gunners ahead of the Blues by his entourage, who believed that a move to the Emirates would be wiser as Mikel Arteta’s style of play was a better fit for the Portuguese.
However, he rejected their advice and moved to Chelsea, which didn’t work out as they sank down the table and he didn’t get the chance to show his worth.
Indeed, his spell with the Blues has only helped to devalue him and put suitors off, with long-term admirers such as Barcelona turning away.
The feeling is that perhaps if he had joined Arsenal as he was advised things would be very different, but he didn’t and is now suffering the consequences of that choice.
