On Sunday evening, PSG welcome Lyon for a Ligue 1 match, and it’s being hyped up in France in the same way that everything around PSG is hyped up in France – often to make things a little more exciting than they actually are.
Celtic were hyped ahead of the Champions League match, or more so Celtic Park. Brendan Rodgers’ men were set to be a sterner test for PSG than they actually were, and the poor Celtic performance has meant the French team couldn’t run away with praise in the aftermath.
Indeed, whilst French newspaper L’Equipe were handing out 2s to Anthony Ralston and Stuart Armstrong, and Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts were the only players to score above a 3, none of the PSG team were awarded more than 8, with the average being 6.8.

L’Equipe are tough on ratings, in mainland Europe 7s and 8s aren’t handed out like confetti for reasonable performances, but it still showed that Celtic weren’t deemed to have put up much of a fight.
Individuals have also come out of the match with some criticism. Former PSG and France defender Alain Roche has been speaking to L’Equipe, and explained he wants more from Kylian Mbappe… defending.
“Against Celtic, it can’t be said he made effort to recover the ball after losing it.”
Roche believes the Celtic match showed it’s not in Mbappe’s ‘nature’ – so he needs to work on it.
Edinson Cavani also needs to work on the defensive side, according to the former PSG star, and it’s clear a lot is expected of the club this season, and that’s not just to be France’s Harlem Globetrotters.
