It seems that Portuguese side Benfica may have given up on signing Joel Pereira from Manchester United.

Although the goalkeeper was claimed to be a priority for the Lisbon club during the past few months, the word has changed a little after recent developments.

Record has a story today claiming that the main name to replace Ederson in case of a departure is now Atletico Madrid’s André Moreira.

They say the ‘preference’ is for him, since Joel Pereira has expressed his will to stay at Manchester United after being given the chance to start against Crystal Palace last weekend.

It’s claimed Pereira is of the opinion that he ‘aims to be number one’ for José Mourinho’s side. Record avoid saying the signing would be more difficult than Moreira, and just report that the focus is on other player now.

With a contract running until 2020, Pereira was recently mentioned by Mourinho as ‘the best Portuguese goalkeeper of his generation’.

He started the season on loan at Belenenses, but was called back in January after a good spell in Portugal.
