Last month, Celtic parted ways with Wilfred Nancy, weeks after appointing him as their manager. Martin O’Neill returned to Celtic Park as interim manager until the end of the season.
Celtic’s decision to appoint O’Neill again hasn’t favoured Marcelo Saracchi. Last summer, he joined the Bhoys on loan from Boca Juniors, when Brendan Rodgers was in charge.
The left-back has played 609 minutes from 12 matches for Celtic. A hamstring injury has partly restricted his game time at Celtic Park.
Bolavip claim Boca Juniors aren’t pleased with his situation at the Scottish club.
Boca Juniors had rejected his proposal to terminate his contract and sent him on loan to Celtic. Their hope was to improve his valuation in Scotland, but that hasn’t happened yet.
In fact, Bolavip claim his situation with O’Neill’s side has ‘turned into a silent headache’ for Boca Juniors.
Last October, Rodgers left Celtic, who immediately appointed O’Neill as caretaker until Nancy’s arrival. O’Neill handed the Uruguayan minutes, but he then lost prominence under Nancy amid injury issues.
His situation at Celtic didn’t change after O’Neill returned in January. To put it in context, Saracchi’s last league appearance was against Dundee FC on December 3rd.
At the weekend, he came off the bench in Celtic’s Scottish Cup win over Dundee FC. It was his first appearance in over two months.
The fullback will leave Celtic after this season, and this presents a ‘complex scenario’ for Boca Juniors.
Bolavip state: ‘First, the club must resolve the issue of the foreign player quota: as the owner of his contract, the Uruguayan still occupies an international spot, which forced the club to perform acrobatics to, for example, enable the signing of Edwuin Cetré.’
If Saracchi’s doesn’t get minutes at Celtic, Boca Juniors will struggle to offload him in the summer.
There’s perhaps an Argentine misunderstanding relating to the player’s fitness status. However, it doesn’t change their concerns about his value failing to rise as had been expected.
