On Wednesday evening, the Telegraph caught everyone by surprise when saying Newcastle United are ‘pushing hard to complete’ a deal with Inter Milan for Nicolo Barella.
It was claimed that following ‘intensive talks’ in the past few days, the Magpies could soon find a deal for a £50m transfer.
The news caused big noise in the Italian media, where, at first, they were just covering what the original report said. But as Calcio Mercato share their own information on the case, they don’t seem to believe Barella is that close to Newcastle.
The website first takes the English claims and then says that the player is only set to speak to Inter Milan about his future following his commitments with the national team.
Then it’s claimed that so far, the player’s agent has ‘not listened to any offers’, and ‘has never spoken to Newcastle’.
According to Calcio Mercato, it’s not even known whether Inter Milan will sell him this summer or not, and there’s absolute ‘certainty’ that £50m would not be enough to take him from the Nerazzurri this summer.
The outlet seems to be very sure that there’s nothing concrete happening around Barella. And with such conflicting claims, we shall see how this situation develops.
