On Saturday, Italian website Calciomercato reported Southampton’s interest in French forward Paul-Georges Ntep.
The 24-year-old is out of contract next summer at Rennes, and the Ligue 1 club could consider selling him in the winter transfer window should they fail to agree to a new contract.
French website Le 10 Sport have also reported Southampton’s interest in Ntep, whilst saying Lyon and Lazio are also keen on signing the forward.
Ntep has again been speaking about his future, to French channel beIN Sports, and has reiterated his wish to stay at the club for ‘one more year’.
He said: “The president told me this summer that he wanted me to extend and I stay one more year to help the club, and especially to find my level, regain confidence.
“He said he was 100% behind me. Today, nothing is signed. I have not been distracted because I leave that to my agent and I do not worry.”
Ntep, however, insists he could leave the club in January, but it’s important to do well till he is at the club.
He added: “If I have to continue, I will stay. If I have to leave in January, I will leave in January. The important thing for me is to have a very good season as long as I’m here with Stade Rennes.
Ntep certainly sounds chilled out about his future. He can stay, go, and, taken at word value, it all seems the same to him.
