Spanish journalist Javier Giraldo has explained in a column for Sport that Everton outcast Gerard Deulofeu ‘wondered what he’d done wrong’ to find himself cast aside by Ronald Koeman. The Spaniard is currently on loan at AC Milan after being frozen out by the Everton manager.
Deulofeu also became concerned at what he thought was a more general perception of his application towards the game, following disappointments at Sevilla, Barcelona letting him go, and then the Everton move going sour.
Signed by former Everton manager Roberto Martinez from Barcelona in 2015, under current boss Koeman the 22-year-old struggled to get playing time. The winger made just eleven Premier League appearances for Everton this season, which were mainly coming off the bench.
Deulofeu was loaned out to AC Milan until the end of the season, and the youngster has shown some encouraging performances since his arrival in Italy. So much so that he feels he’s getting his career back on track.
Part of the change, suggests the Sport column, is down to Deulofeu maturing, he’ll be a father for the first time soon. The shock of the negative perception has forced Deulofeo into a rethink, and Milan are benefitting.
