Scott McTominay received a very warm welcome when he joined Napoli some days ago and the transfer has gone down well in Italy.
The Scotsman was linked with a move to Fulham in the summer and it seems as if they weren’t the only English club that was interested in him.
Alfredo Pedulla has reported that even Aston Villa were a potential candidate.
Villa, like Fulham, were ‘making enquiries’ for the ex-Manchester United man and they were keen on signing him.
McTominay ‘discarded’ both Villa and Fulham as he ‘badly’ wanted to join Napoli because of the presence of manager Antonio Conte. The Italian himself pressed for McTominay’s signature in Naples and was ‘decisive’ for the move to go through.
The midfielder was waiting for United and Napoli to find an agreement, having rejected the two English clubs, and is quite satisfied with the idea of playing for the former Italian champions.
The last few days have been described as ‘feverish’ for McTominay and his agent Colin Murdoch, and it doesn’t seem as if Villa ever had a chance of landing him.
