On January 25th, Corriere dello Sport reported Brighton & Hove Albion had negotiated a deal for Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil.
A day later, TuttoMercatoWeb explained that the Seagulls were the club to have shown most interest in the winger.
Calciomercato have shared details of what went on behind the scenes and why Brighton or any other club weren’t able to take him away from Tottenham in the winter market.
In Italy, Lazio and Fiorentina showed keen interest in the 22-year-old but failed with their efforts.
The former Sevilla man only wanted to join a club that were willing to bet decisively and sign him on loan with an option/obligation to buy. Lazio and Fiorentina were looking for a dry loan deal.
Apart from these two clubs, Brighton also failed to secure a deal for the Tottenham player. Gil was ready to change his stance for Roberto De Zerbi’s side as it’s claimed they were the only club he was ‘willing to accept’ on a dry loan basis.
There’s no explanation provided over why Brighton couldn’t get the deal over the line in January.
