Exeter City want to sign Sunderland’s Timur Tutierov in the winter market, according to a report from Ukraine.

The League One side are currently 14th in the table with 30 points after 24 matches. They are trailing sixth placed Bolton Wanderers by nine points.

Exeter City are working on improving Gary Caldwell’s squad in the mid-season window and are focusing on the Sunderland player.

That’s at least what Football 24 in Ukraine are reporting, and their journalist, Kateryna Bondarenko, covers a short update on the 20-year-old.

According to Bondarenko, the Ukraine U21 international ‘will soon’ leave Régis Le Bris’ side to join Exeter City.

The journalist adds Sunderland have reached an agreement with the lower division English club to send him on loan. There’s no mention of whether a purchase option or obligation as it’s likely to be a straight loan until the end of this season.

Tutierov is a product of FC Kolos Kovalivka’s youth system and didn’t make an appearance for their senior team. That didn’t stop the Black Cats from betting on him. They signed him on a permanent deal in June 2023.

The winger has been with Sunderland U21s and has been a regular for them. He’s played 43 matches, scoring 16 goals and contributing five assists, of which nine goals and an assist are from this season.

Sunderland bench appearances haven’t seen minutes

Tutierov’s performances for the youth team have pleased Le Bris. The coach has included him in his squad for the last four Premier League matches. However, the youngster was an unused substitute in all of them.

The Ukrainian hasn’t made his first team debut for Sunderland. Now his task will be to impress at Exeter City in League One and catch Le Bris’ attention when doing so.

That’s of course assuming there’s no option to buy, and a long term Sunderland future remains the player’s intention.
