On Sunday, O Jogo reported Sporting’s Mateus Fernandes is close to joining Southampton this summer.
Monday’s edition of Record and a fresh report from O Jogo provides the latest on the deal to take the 20-year-old to Southampton.
The midfielder left Portugal yesterday, to complete a move to St Mary’s. It’s claimed he’ll undergo his Southampton medical today, and his transfer will be made official on Tuesday.
Russell Martin’s side have agreed a deal worth around €15m plus €5m bonuses, slightly more than reported on Sunday. The report says the Lions are confident of earning €20m from his sale as the bonuses are easily achievable. They will also receive 10% of profit from a future sale.
This is backed up by O Jogo, who add the Portugal U21 international already arrived in England on Sunday.
Both Record and O Jogo state that Fernandes was at the club’s facilities yesterday, to say goodbye to his teammates, ahead of his impending move to Southampton.
The youngster graduated from Sporting’s academy and was promoted to their senior team in 2022. Fernandes played 10 matches for Sporting’s first team and spent last season on loan at Estoril Praia.
