Earlier today, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reported Fulham have made a £15m bid for Calvin Bassey and Ajax are yet to respond to their proposal.
The Eredivisie side took the defender from Rangers for €23m last summer and he had a mixed debut season at Ajax.
De Gelderlander state Fulham see the 23-year-old as a ‘welcome reinforcement’ in this window. They say it won’t be easy for them to sign him because he has no intention of joining Marco Silva’s side.
In fact, the centre-back is ‘looking for revenge after a failed first season’ and is convinced that he’ll succeed at the Dutch club next time.
It’s claimed the Nigeria international doesn’t want to move to Fulham and would ‘only consider’ joining them if Ajax tell him he’s no longer needed at the club. De Gelderlander say that hasn’t happened so far.
Over at Voetbal International, they back up The Athletic’s claim and then state that the Amsterdam club are ‘considering’ the offer made by Fulham for Bassey.
VI state selling him for around €23m [the fee Ajax invested to sign him] would be a ‘good outcome’ for both parties. This could allow Ajax to reinvest the money to reshape their squad.
Operating as a centre-back and a left-back, Bassey managed a goal and five assists from 39 games last season.
Fulham have offers in for multiple defenders at the moment.
