Over the past few weeks, it’s becoming clear that Gabri Veiga is destined to leave Celta Vigo in the next transfer window.
Newcastle United have been touted as an interested party, with any potential transfer made easier by the fact he has a €40m release clause in his contract.
Cadena SER bring the latest on the situation on Monday, and following claims the Magpies would be willing to pay up to sign him, the midfielder will first have a chat with Real Madrid.
The Spanish outlet state that two Premier League sides are ‘willing to pay the clause’, and while they don’t name anyone, previous reports make it almost impossible to not believe Newcastle aren’t one of those.
However, even if the Magpies do put the money on the table, the player ‘will ask Real Madrid whether they will match the offer’.
That’s because, if he was presented with two equal opportunities from the Premier League and the La Liga giants, he would choose the latter.
This latest development could be seen as a potential blow for Newcastle, but some solace can be taken from the fact a previous report from Cadena SER made it clear Real Madrid would not be willing to pay €40m up front, and would rather do a deal of money + a promising player.
