Ibrahima Konate is on the verge of leaving RB Leipzig, according to a report from SportBuzzer’s Guido Schäfer, a journalist based in the German city in which the defender plays.

According to the claims, Konate will ‘almost certainly’ sign for Liverpool, a club he’s been linked with for some months.

There’s been endless claims about the player swapping the Bundesliga for the Premier League, and Jurgen Klopp’s side have looked the only ones seriously in town for a deal.

Liverpool will have to pay more than €40m to get the deal done, and in recent weeks there’s been some confusion over the exact amount involved, which could have been related to where RB Leipzig finished in the league.

Ozan Kabak is expected to return to second division Schalke following his time on loan at Anfield, and he’ll have to find a new club if he doesn’t want to play in the Bundesliga 2. A meaningful Liverpool stay obviously looks unlikely should the Konate move be finalised.
