There was a time when RB Salzburg had two very good midfielders in their ranks by the name of Amadou Haidara and Diadié Samassékou.
Both left in 2019 for RB Leipzig (in January) and TSG Hoffenheim (in August) respectively and both, coincidentally, are fans of Manchester United, with the pair admitting as much in the past, one more recently than the other.
Samassékou recently had a chat with Kicker, which the magazine recall on Friday, where he claimed he still wanted to play for a certain club.
He said: “Yes, that’s still the case, because I’ve always had my dreams and it’s hard to part with them. I’m already very grateful to Hoffenheim and always will be, but at some point, I want to join one of the best clubs, it’s always in my heart, but I won’t reveal the name”.
Thankfully, this new shyness to give us their identity wasn’t present in June 2020 when he had a chat with Onze Mondial in France.
At the time, in an interview we covered, he admitted: “Of course, since I was little, I’ve been a big fan of Manchester United. Playing in that league has always made me dream, and I want to give myself the means to achieve that goal”.
So, it’s fair to assume the side he labels ‘one of the best clubs’ is the Red Devils, and the great news for him is that Ralf Rangnick really appreciates what he has to offer.
Kicker, on Friday, explain the German manager ‘knows Samassékou well’ and already wanted him at Leipzig but opted for Haidara instead.
It’s pointed out that Rangnick ‘seems to have the Bundesliga in mind when looking for possible reinforcements for Manchester United’.
Should an offer be made for Samassékou, Kicker explain that he would ‘welcome it with open arms’, quoting him saying: “If the opportunity arises to switch to the club of my heart, I will not slam the door in the face of those in charge”.
So, there you go, that’s two Mali internationals Rangnick has his eyes on for Manchester United, and both are big fans of the club.
